It is proposed by Her Majesty's Government to substitute European Troops for the Ceylon Rifles.
It is necessary to give increased Barrack accommodation in the town of Victoria, the numerical strength of the force being absolutely necessary for the performance of the garrison duties, and European Troops could not be crowded into the space occupied by the Ceylon Rifles, whose beds touch each other: in consequence of which latter circumstance, an Estimate was sent to the War Department recently for increased accommodation at the Barrack for Married Men at Murray and also for 36 additional Barrack rooms for the European Troops.
